Where we put our security screens to the test

We are continously challenging ourselves, so you don't have to. From impact testing, to knife shear testing, to wind debris testing, we've put our screens through some of the toughest tests possible so you can be sure they meet or exceed the highest standards.

The strongest screens on the market

Withstanding up to 750 Joules of impact*

The Impact Test

How well does a security screen hold up to the full force of kicks, punches or charges from an intruder? Dynamic impact testing can tell us by measuring the force of those impacts in joules (J).

What’s the Australian Standard?

The minimum requirement of Australian Standards is five x impacts of 100J. This is based on the assumption that the average Australian male, weighing 86kg or more, can easily exert more than 100 joules of force in a single impact.

How did we do?

Crimsafe screens not only surpassed the Australian Standard but also performed well against singular impacts with levels reaching 550J (Crimsafe Regular), 750J (Crimsafe Ultimate) and 1200J (Crimsafe Heavy-Duty).

Super strong steel mesh

A cut above the rest

The Knife Shear Test

The Knife Shear Test

How well does Crimsafe perform when an intruder tries to gain entry by using a blade to slash the screen? The Knife Shear Test is designed to find out by simulating a knife attack on a screen.

What’s the Australian Standard?

The Australian Standard Knife Shear Test (AS5039-2008) is carried out three times with a new blade for each strike. In order to pass, the mesh must not allow the blade to make an incision greater than 150mm

How did we do?

All Crimsafe screens easily outperform the Australian Standard, thanks to our unique Tensile-Tuff® mesh — the industry leading, 0.9mm, 304-grade, high-tensile, stainless steel security mesh.

Extra sturdy frames and fixing

Resistant to jemmies and levers

The Lever Test

Some security screens have weak points, making it easy for home invaders to gain entry by levering the screen open with a jemmy or screwdriver. The Lever Test simulates this action to test how the strength of the screen frame, lock and hinges.

What’s the Australian Standard?

The Australian Standard Jemmy Test (AS5039/5041-2008) tests the strength of the frame, hinges, locking and fastening points. A screen will not meet the Australian Standard if any of these mechanisms fail, or if the gap between the screen and the window or door frame is greater than 15 mm.

How did we do?

The superior strength of Crimsafe frames, hinges, fixing and locking system have been designed to meet Australian Standards in every section of the Lever Attack or ‘jemmy’ test.

Only Crimsafe passes the European RC2 Test

Tested to withstand real world attack.

Taking the RC2 test

Crimsafe iQ is the only screen door to have passed the toughest, most rigorous burglar-resistance test in the world – the RC2 Test. During the RC2 test, security screens are subject to a barrage of tests including the application of stress on the locking points, hinges and bearing points. RC2 also tests for weak points with large screwdriver attacks. Pitted against a 180 second time, the test simulates a burglar attack, trying to break it using a combination of brute force and weapons.

How did we do?

Crimsafe iQ fulfilled the requirements for burglar-resistant doors in the RC2 Test, with no attack zone being breached. The lockable operating handle was also able to withstand a torque of 100 Nm applied in the operating direction.

Testing our Screw-Clamp™ technology

Holding the mesh securely with a vice-like grip

Our Screw-Clamp™ technology

Crimsafe’s exclusive Screw-Clamp™ bites down on the mesh, holding it into the frame, which is then secured by tamper-resistant stainless-steel screws. This vice-like grip is what gives Crimsafe its incredible strength and its ability to withstand tremendous force by absorbing and dispersing impact.

Unlike other products that use a plastic wedge or glue to hold the mesh in place, Crimsafe’s Screw-Clamp™ transfers the force of an impact around the frame, so the mesh remains intact, allowing the unit to withstand enormous impact. Crimsafe is the only security screen to feature mesh screwed into place like this, giving it unrivalled resistance to attack.
