Crimsafe’s unique Screw-Clamp™ technology means that the mesh is screwed into the frame and clamped down with a vice-like grip using the Crimsafe Screw-Clamp.
This makes Crimsafe much stronger than other products that use a plastic wedge to hold the mesh in place.
When hit by an impact like a kick, Crimsafe spreads the load around the whole frame and back into the structure of the building, meaning Crimsafe can resist enormous impacts compared to plastic wedging systems, which only localise the impact, making them relatively easy to kick out compared to Crimsafe.
The mesh is also made out of 0.9mm diameter 304 structural grade wire strands and woven together in such a tight way that each strand supports the others around it.
The specifications pertaining to the mesh and other products that we supply are our target specifications. The actual specifications for items supplied may differ, taking into account reasonable manufacturing tolerances.
Unlike many other systems, Crimsafe uses a superior 0.9mm diameter 304 grade structural grade stainless steel wire in our mesh.
When compared to 0.8mm 316 wire, Crimsafe Tensile-Tuff® 0.9mm 304 mesh is 26.5% thicker in cross-section, which assists its ability to absorb impact energy better at high tensile levels and makes it more appropriate for security applications.
The actual strength of the stainless steel, while very important, is not the most influential factor in creating an effective security screen. The measure of how much energy can be absorbed on the way to tensile strength is far more important. Crimsafe security screens are engineered to remain strong when deformed by the impact of an attack and do not become brittle and give way.
Independent testing shows that Crimsafe screens can absorb more impact than other security screen products.
Our Tensile-Tuff® security mesh undergoes several hardening processes to make it stronger than ordinary steel of the same diameter. Our mesh is stronger than any of our current competitors’ mesh in its class. All Crimsafe products have significantly outperformed the impact levels required by Australian Standards and can resist higher levels of impact than competitor products. Crimsafe also passes Australian Standards for jemmy testing, pull-testing and knife-shear testing. View Crimsafe Testing Results.
Yes, Crimsafe has been tested to and meets the requirements of Australian Standard AS3959-2009 Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas. With an aperture size of less than 2mm, Crimsafe screens can prevent the spread of embers and can be used in all bushfire zones, including BAL-FZ, being the most severe.
Crimsafe is also deemed an ‘alternative solution’ for fire attenuation and can reduce the intensity of radiant heat by up to 59% (as tested by CSIRO*). A Fire Safety Report by a Fire Protection Engineer or Certifier is required. Read more about performance testing.
Yes. Crimsafe produces a commercial-grade product specifically for applications needing additional security, such as banks or prisons. Our commercial-grade product uses five times as many screws to fasten the mesh into the frame as Crimsafe Regular, and features 60% thicker frames to further increase the strength of the system.
Crimsafe commercial grade can withstand up to 1200 Joules of impact and meets the specification requirements to be used for fire attenuation screens, bushfire protection, cyclone-debris protection, balustrade infill panels, and much more. For more information, contact us.
Yes. Crimsafe produces emergency exit window screens called Safe-S-Capes®. They allow keyless exit through windows while still maintaining heavy-duty security from the outside. The Crimsafe Safe-S-Cape® can be hinged or sliding to accommodate a wide range of window styles. For more information, please contact your local Distributor.
A correctly installed Crimsafe Sliding Door should not be able to be removed from the tracks when closed and locked.
The aperture size is 1.5mm x 1.5mm, which means that Crimsafe does not impede your view in any substantial way in normal lighting conditions.
Yes, absolutely. Dogs, cats and birds are unable to penetrate the mesh with their claws and beaks. Crimsafe security screens will even resist attacks from monkeys.
The holes in Crimsafe’s Tensile-Tuff® security mesh are just slightly larger than regular flyscreen. Flies and mosquitoes are unable to pass through, and Crimsafe cuts the number of sand flies and midges that enter your home by about 80%.
Generally not. Black absorbs light and is non-reflective, so when you look through the mesh, all you see is light that has come straight through the holes in it, making it much easier to see outside. If the mesh was any other colour, it would create glare and reduce visibility.
Depending on the angle of the sun, Crimsafe acts as a very effective blind whilst still allowing you an excellent view. Independent testings show that your Crimsafe screen can cut down on solar heat gain by up to 53%, adding to the energy efficiency of your door or window. Read more in our Testing section.
Crimsafe Security Systems provide a 10-year warranty. Terms and conditions apply. Read more about our Warranty here.
Yes. Crimsafe Tensile-Tuff® mesh acts similarly to an air conditioner filter or a pool filter, in that it traps dirt and impurities and requires cleaning on a regular basis.
You should clean your Crimsafe screens in accordance with our Care Guide.
